Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum - 520-883-2702 Description, Location, Hours and Recommendations
The Tucson Desert Museum is a fascinating place. Plan on 2 or 3 hours to get a good look, but many people stay much longer. They have tours available if you desire or you can wander through on your own. There are about 2 miles of walking paths there spread over 21 acres so wear comfortable clothes and good walking shoes.
The Desert Museum is open year round and winter is a great time to visit because it's not so hot. If you go in the summer be sure to take a hat and wear light clothes because of the heat. In Summer it's best to go early, before it gets too hot.
This is a Desert experience, they have a desert zoo, a natural history museum and a botanical garden all right there in one spot. The exhibits are designed to simulate the natural desert of this area and you will see all kinds of desert critters, including Mountain Lions, Javalina, Prairie Dogs, Wolves, Coyotes, Snakes, Gila Monsters and many others.
Be sure to check out the gift shops there, we have some really neat stuff we purchased there. They also have a couple small cafe's there so you can do a little shopping and get a bite of lunch or a cool drink after your walk. Please Note: No Pets are allowed, desert critters only here.
The Desert Museum is a great day trip and fun for the whole family. We have been to the Desert Museum several times and always send our visitors out there to see it.
