The Tucson Museum of Art is one of Tucson's Treasures. If you like the arts, this is a wonderful museum with a surprisingly wide variety of American West, Contemporary and Modern art. They also have a series of traveling exhibitions so there is always something new to experience.
This is a large facility encompassing a full city block in the historic part of Downtown Tucson. Established in 1924 the Museum of Art in Tucson was originally called the Tucson Fine Arts Association. Renamed to the Tucson Museum of Art in the 1950's and relocated to it's current location in 1975 Tucson's Art Museum has grown into the wonderful facility it is today. There are tours, various educational programs, an Art School, and a gift shop at the Tucson Museum of Art. There are several other buildings in the Historic Block that the Museum occupies which are open to the public and give you a fascinating glimpse into the past. La Casa Cordova, The Edward Nye Fish House and the Stephens/Duffield House all contain various exhibits and collections. We visit the Museum a couple times a year. It is a fascinating place and there are often special events there that we enjoy. Long Realty is a big supporter of the arts and actually rents the facilities occasionally for large company social events. The museum is also often the site of local charitable black tie events. The Arts in Tucson are varied and plentiful. There is another Art group up in Oro Valley called the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council which is much smaller and focuses a lot on outdoor events. Located downtown close to the convention center the hours at the Tucson Museum of Arts are generally 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and they are closed most holidays. Driving Directions: From Stone & Speedway; Go South on Stone, Go West on Alameda, Go North on Main. Look for the Museum on your right side. There are several parking lots scattered around this area.
